One afternoon in Santa Cruz, after the first time I did them in an organized way (as presented in SuperWalking) I took a walk. Going up the steps from the deck to street level, I marvelled at how light I felt — without losing weight! I thought, “This is an amazing miracle!” and named it “The Amazing Walking Miracle”, the first time I published it in The Guidebook of Somatic Transformational Exercises.

“Lying on your back, leave one leg straight and draw the other knee toward your chest with your muscles. By drawing your knee toward your chest, help your straight leg straighten and reach. Repeatedly pulse the movement. Make each movement help the other. Slowly relax and lie flat.”

The Gyroscopic Walk

The Gyroscopic Walk (freely available here) takes it a step further and guides how to take what has been freed in SuperWalking and apply it into special walking patterns that now make use of gravity to find and move from The Center Line of Balance.

The Gyroscopic Walk and The Old Scottish Geezer’s Walk do this. The rhythms and efficiencies of those movements gather movements into rhythmic patterns. By recognizing and enhancing those movement rhythms, we put ourselves together better and better. All from each patterned walk.

FIRST STEP: Free ourselves from the grip of inadvertent muscular tension patterns (“holding patterns”) that show up as stiff, slow, or ponderous walking.

SECOND STEP: Take that freedom and apply it to bringing ourselves together, better.
